Dobele coach: we have rewritten the club’s history

The BHL Final Four will be held in the Polva city. This decision was taken by the BHL board. The last time the BHL Final Four took place in Polva was in 2018.<img src="https://baltichandball.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Polva_Granitas_3-1024x665.jpg" height="665" width="1024">The final four will take place on April 15-16. The host Pölva Serviti club will meet VHC Šviesa in the semi-finals. BHL champion Viljandi HC will play ZRHK TENAX Dobele in the semifinals.The BHL Final Four was also held in Estonia last year. Last season, the Final Four took place in Viljandi.

There are four contenders left for the champion title in the Baltic Handball League. Two clubs from Estonia and one each from Latvia and Lithuania are among the top four BHL teams. The final four tournament will take place on April 15-16.

VHC Šviesa reached the final four as in the last season. VHC Šviesa won both quarter-final matches againts Mistra.

Žygimantas Sinkevičius (coach, VHC Šviesa): The aggregate score of the two matches does not really reflect the Mistra team’s capacity. The victory was secured thanks to a good analysis of the opponents, which was a great help in the first quarter-final match. We left no chance for our opponents in that match. In the second leg, determination and physicality allowed us to win. Our opponents got tired and we won the away match. I am glad that we will represent Lithuania in the final four of the Baltic League.

Armis Priskus (goalkeeper, Mistra): We expected to win. But it is very difficult to catch up when your opponents have an 11-goal lead. We maintained a high tempo, but we made mistakes in passing. We did not make good use of the chances that we had created for ourselves. There are some pluses to be found in our play. We played well, but we lost the initiative at the end of the game and suffered a defeat.



Tadas Rasakevičius (player, VHC Šviesa): The second leg was not good. If I had to give the team a mark, it would be seven out of ten. In the first half, we made a lot of mistakes in attack. Our defence was pretty good, but it was hard to defend when all seven of them attacked. We came to Estonia with an 11-goal lead, so it was easier to play in the second leg. We are delighted with the win and our ticket to the final four.



VHC Šviesa will meet Pölva Serviti in the semi-finals. Last season VHC Šviesa lost to Pölva Serviti in the semi-finals 26:27. The other semi-final pair is Viljandi HC and ZRHK TENAX Dobele.

The final four participant – viljandi hc

The decisive matches for spots in the BHL final four are still to be played. The quarter-final second leg will take place on Saturday. This will leave just four contenders for the champion title.<img src="https://baltichandball.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Granitas_Polva_3-1-1024x708.jpg" height="708" width="1024">In the quarter-finals, the only team that managed to win the away match is Pölva Serviti. The Estonian champions defeated the Lithuanian vice-champion Granitas-Karys Kaunas 26:22 in their first game away. Saturday’s match will show whether the Pölva Serviti team’s four-goal lead will be enough.<img src="https://baltichandball.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Polva_Kalmer-Musting-1-1024x734.jpeg" height="734" width="1024">Kalmer Musting (coach, Pölva Serviti):We are not yet in the final four. The first game in Kaunas was an even fight and it was not easy for us to get the win. Four goals is not much. If we had won by an 8–10 goal margin, then we could think that we have one foot in the final four. We are preparing for a serious fight and we have to be 100% ready. Some aspects of our play need to be fixed. We played good defence, but we need to improve our attack. We made too many mistakes, we need to make fewer of them. Granitas will give its all in the fight against us, so it is going to be an interesting match.<img src="https://baltichandball.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Granitas_Polva_5-1-1024x682.jpg" height="682" width="1024">Vaidotas Grosas (coach, Granitas-Karys):We will fight as long as we have a chance of advancing to the final four. Of course, the chances are not great, as we will be playing away. In the first quarter-final matches, only one team – our opponents – managed to win their away match. It is always harder to play on the opposing team’s home court. Our opponents have weak spots where we can surprise them and attack successfully. We could have drawn the first match, or even won it. But we played poorly at the end of the match. The opponents have more experienced players. Some of our players are at a similar level to the Polva players, but not all. We will therefore have to compensate for this shortcoming with other things.The match between Pölva Serviti and Granitas-Karys will take place on 25 March at 3.30 pm in the Mesikäpa hall.

Žygimantas Sinkevičius (coach, VHC Šviesa): We cannot relax in any way before the second leg. We have talked about it a lot in training. Although we beat Mistra, they can still win and get their revenge in Estonia. The opponents will give maximum effort, so it is going to be a very tough match. If we are in the right frame of mind for the match and fight like we did in Vilnius, we can get a good result. We played very well in Vilnius. The whole team played as one and we won by a good margin against a strong opponent.

Jüri Lepp (coach, Mistra): I think our ship has sailed. We have a very slim chance of making it to the final four. We played very poorly in the first match. It was our worst game of the season. We will aim for victory at home and we want to show a good play. We understand that it will be very difficult to advance to the final four, but we want to show a good play at home in front of our home crowd and rehabilitate after the defeat in the first match.

Final four participants: viljandi, pölva, dobele and šviesa

The decisive matches for spots in the BHL final four are still to be played. The quarter-final return matches will take place on Saturday. This will leave just four contenders for the champion title.<img src="https://baltichandball.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Tapa_Viljandi_7-1024x677.jpeg" height="677" width="1024">Of all the first quarter-final matches, the match between the Estonian teams SK Tapa/N.R. Energy and Viljandi HC ended with the smallest margin. SK Tapa/N.R. Energy took a two-goal lead at home. However, the defending BHL champion Viljandi HC will have the home advantage in the return match.<img src="https://baltichandball.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Tapa-tr.-Kopelmann-1024x681.jpeg" height="681" width="1024">Elmu Koppelmann (coach, SK Tapa/N.R. Energy):Everything starts from zero. In the first match, Viljandi played well in the first half and we could not beat their goalkeeper. At half-time, we talked about what we needed to do and the team managed to turn the game around. We took the lead in the last minutes of the match and won. It was a tense game, with a lot of two-minute suspensions. Viljandi is now thinking about how to win the second leg. We will look for ways not to lose the match. Two goals is a very small margin. It is going to be a tough game, as it was a week ago.<img src="https://baltichandball.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Viljandi-tr.-Koks-1024x677.jpeg" height="677" width="1024">Marko Koks (coach, Viljandi HC):Tapa have been playing very well this season. We have already lost to them twice. We need to play much better than in the first game. We played well for the first 20 minutes, but when we got a six-goal lead, we relaxed too early and lost the game. We need to fight until the end. This is exactly what the Tapa team did. And we lacked concentration until the end of the game. At home, we will have to meet the requirements on the court for all 60 minutes. We hope that the support of our fans at home will help us. There were a lot of fans in Tapa, but we expect even more support at home.The match between Viljandi HC and SK Tapa/N.R. Energy will take place on 25 March at 14:00 at the Viljandi sporthall.

The estonian derby, the biggest intrigue of the quarter-finals

The play-offs have started in the Baltic Handball League. There are two matches in the quarter-final round. Each pair will face off against each other at home and away, with the winners of both pairs advancing to the final four based on the aggregate score of the two matches.<img src="https://baltichandball.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Tapa_Viljandi_1-1024x677.jpeg" height="677" width="1024">In the quarter-finals met two Estonian clubs. SK Tapa/N.R. Energy hosted BHL champion Viljandi HC.Viljandi HC started the match well and took a 4-0 lead. In the 12th minute, Viljandi HC gained a 8-goal lead, 12:4. The result changed in the second time. SK Tapa/N.R. Energy won the period 5-0 and tied the score 20:20 in the 44th minute. There was real drama at the end of the match. Energy):First half was negatyve. It was not very nice to watch. Second half was already something else – as they say, a real rollercoaster started. Towards the end of the game, there were certain leaders who led the game – Kaspar Lees, who kept the flow of the game going and Mikola Naum, who played a good game in the goal. Also toward the end Endrik Jaanis had a good game.&nbsp;I feel that the first 30 minutes I couldn’t coach the game but the second half I was already able to do so. In the end, I’m happy and emotions are positive.Marko Koks (coach, Viljandi HC):Our winning streak from 2021 December is ending. Very different two halftimes. We started very well both in offence and defence also. In the locker room we talked about that Tapa fight till the end but unfortunately this happened in second time. We made many bad shots and defensively we played soft and Tapa game back to the game. End was already the lottery. Energy):It was a crazy game with highs and lows. The start of the game was very difficult for us. Although we were ready for the game we were still under a lot of pressure so we started to have some trouble in the attack and Viljandi came on strongly and broke us in the first half. We agreed at halftime that we were going to start fighting and come back point by point. Our defence was more aggressive and Kolka, our goalkeeper, helped us as well and we scored goals thanks to fast breaks. This was a very important victory for us. Firstly, because we were able to get back in the game with our emotional side. Secondly, because we are going to be able to play for the final four place next week. It will be a tough battle.Kristo Voika (player, Viljandi HC):We started the game really well today.&nbsp;First half we were focused and everything was going as planned. In the second half we didn’t play as a team anymore. We made a lot of easy mistakes and Tapa got there confidence. Minus 2 is not the worst&nbsp;but it’s also not ideal.&nbsp;We try to be better at home in a week.

In the quarterfinals, sk tapa/n.r. energy won against bhl champion viljandi hc

The BHL play-offs start this weekend. Mistra won 16 points in 10 matches and finished 2nd in Group A. Šviesa won 13 points and finished 3rd in Group B. The first home match will be played by VHC Šviesa in Vilnius.&nbsp;<img src="https://baltichandball.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Mistra_Juri-Lepp-1024x682.jpg" height="682" width="1024">Jüri Lepp (coach, Mistra):It is going to be an intriguing match. Both teams have an equal chance of making the final four. We have not played against Šviesa yet this season, which adds to the intrigue. Interestingly, this season the quarter-finals are between teams from different groups. This makes it even more difficult to predict the winner, as the teams have not met this season. This idea of the Baltic Handball League is certainly a welcome one, as clubs from all three countries – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – compete in the league. Neither the Baltic Volleyball League nor the Baltic Basketball League have such a thing.<img src="https://baltichandball.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Sviesa_Sinkevicius-1024x684.jpg" height="684" width="1024">Žygimantas Sinkevičius (coach, VHC Šviesa):The teams are of equal capacity. Mistra is showing a good and mature play this season. Mistra has experienced players such as Ievgen Buinenko, who has played with the Lithuania’s best handball player Aidenas Malashinskas. Sergii Orlovskyi, the Mistra’s leader of attacks, is the league’s top scorer. Mistra is a very well-formed team. We expect a tough fight both at home and away. The first match is harder to play at home, so a lot will depend on it. Because we will have a tiring trip to Estonia before the second leg. In addition, Mistra plays very well at home. Our goal remains the same – we want to make the final four.The first match between VHC Šviesa and Mistra will take place on 18 March at 5pm in the „Sostinės tauras“ sports hall.

Bhl quarter-finals: intriguing duel between šviesa and mistra

The Baltic Handball League championship 2022/23 is over. Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian clubs shared the medals in the Final Four in Põlva. The defending champion Viljandi HC and the champions of all three countries – Estonia’s Põlva Serviti, Latvia’s ZRHK TENAX Dobele and Lithuania’s VHC Šviesa – played in the final four.<img src="https://app.rested.dev/api/1/ce/bhl-files%3E%3E%3EPolva_Viljandi_9-1024x683.jpg?key=dac61bc168fa48a0bacc52c298db2e75&amp;uniqueId=6ba4973b1ed948b1a932eabbf60869e1&amp;fileOnly=true" alt="Põlva">Two Estonian clubs – Põlva Serviti and Viljandi HC met in the final like last year. Põlva Serviti led during the whole match. The hosts of the final four won the first half 15:11. Põlva Serviti gained the biggest lead in the 43rd minute, 24:16. Viljandi HC reduced the gap only at the end of the match. Põlva Serviti won the final 27:24.Põlva Serviti became the champion of the Baltic Handball League for the third time in the club’s history. The atmosphere in the arena was very good and that helped us a lot. We became champions after a long break. We played our third game in 5 days. We didn’t make free throws from the 6-meter line. We let our opponents get ahead. We played better in the second half but we didn’t have enough time to catch up with our opponents. The team fought until the end. We kept the intrigue until the end of the game. We were helped a lot by the fans, many of whom came from Viljandi. There was a great atmosphere in the arena. It was a good match. Põlva Serviti started the game better but we never lost hope.
